Verses November The Word, Who with a word fixed the earth s foundation, Up from the earth Ioanikios now taketh. On the fourth they dug thee a grave, O Ioanikios. The great spiritual light Ioanikios was born in the village of Marycata in the province of Bithynia. As a youth, he was a shepherd. While tending his sheep, he would often retreat into solitude and remain in prayer the whole day, encircling his flock with the sign of the Cross so that the flock would not stray and scatter. Later, he was taken into the army and displayed marvelous courage. Following his military service, Ioanikios withdrew to Mount Olympus in Asia Minor, where he was tonsured a monk and dedicated himself completely to asceticism until his repose at age 94

3 THE EPISTLE (For the Twenty-third Sunday after Pentecost) O Lord, save Thy people and bless Thine inheritance. To Thee, O Lord, have I cried, O my God. The Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Ephesians. (2:4-10) Brethren, God, Who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and made us sit with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the coming ages He might show the immeasurable riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God not because of works, lest any man should boast. (16:19-31) The Lord said, There was a rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, full of sores, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man s table; moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores. The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried; and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes, and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus in his bosom. And he called out, Father Abraham, have mercy upon me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame. 5 كلمة الراعي الغني الغبي يحد ثنا إنجيل اليوم عن غني انشغل بغناه. ويسوع يبي ن لنا في هذا المثل ان الذي جعل قلبه في المال ال يبقى في قلبه موضع لشيء آخر. وعلى العموم إذا جعلنا في القلب أي شيء أو أي شخص يتحك م بنا ال يبقى في القلب مكان لشيء آخر. مغزى النص اإلنجيلي هو أن يكون المال خاضع ا لإلنسان أن يكون المال شيئ ا نستعمله ال شيئ ا يستعملنا. المال ي قتنى اقتناء وال ي ح ب حب ا. وبالتالي ال بد من تبديده في وقت من األوقات في ظل النظام الذي نحيا فيه عندما ي عرقل حياتنا األخالقية. تحد ث اإلنجيل عن إنسان أراد أن يجمع الممتلكات لنفسه وال يشارك فيها أحدا. ولكي تبقى له وحده أراد ان يبني مخازن ومستودعات أكبر من التي لديه. فقال لنفسه أن استمتعي في هذه الحياة وكلي واشربي فالحياة كلها طعام ولذة والحياة كلها أموال وما تشتريه األموال. هكذا قال هذا الرجل الذي وصفه الكتاب على انه غبي والغباء هو في انه أقبل فقط على اللذات ولم يستلذ باهلل لم يحب الخالق. كانت نفسه فارغة من رب ه مليئة بالشهوة. أي انها كانت بالحقيقة ال شيء كانت تتالشى بتالشي الشهوات تنحط بانحطاط اللذات. كيف يكون المال أداة وال يكون هو غاية جهودنا كل إنسان يعرف ان المال ممكن ان يتملكه بدل ان يبقى سيدا على ماله. المال أصال عبد يمكن ان ينقلب معبودا. وألن السيد يعرف هذا قال:»ال تقدرون ان تعبدوا هللا والمال.«إذا كث ر المال أو لم يكثر وأحببته كأنه معشوق أي تعيش ليس فقط به ولكن له يحتل في قلبك مكانة هللا. إذ ذاك يتحك م بأعمالك من حيث انك في نهاية شوقك اليه يصبح في قلبك هو المعبود وإن صعب عليك ان تعترف بذلك. ولكن هذه هي الحال ان المال معبود كثيرين أغنياء كانوا أم فقراء. يحزنون جدا حتى الخوف إذا خسروه ويكون وحده موضع سرورهم الحقيقي فال يعادله سرور آخر. في الواقع النفسي يمكن ان يتحكم بك المال تحكما حقيقيا فتتابع حياتك فقط القتنائه وينتهي سرورك عنده. وفي أقصى السقوط ال تفضل شيئا عليه مهما ادعيت. إذ ذاك ال محل عندك للعاطفة وفي حالة تعلقك العظيم ال القربى وال الصداقة وربما ال التقوى لها مكانة عندك. يصبح المال إله ا حقا بمعنى انه يأخذ كل اهتمامك كل عقلك كل قلبك وكل شيء آخر يصبح عندك وهم ا أو خرافة أو كذبة. في أقصى التعل ق به تضحي بالناس جميعا بما فيهم األقربون. هو عندك بمثابة شخص حي. عندما يقول الناس هذا عاشق مال هم ال يبالغون. الكلمة في محل ها. عشق الجنس اآلخر يتالشى أمام عشق المال إذا طغى. جاورجيوس مطران جبيل والبترون وما يليهما )جبل لبنان(
